Hi!

I'm Joana and I created Atelier Casa Mãe to help families adapt their homes to everyone's needs and routines, creating spaces that reflect the personality of those who live in the house and that promote a better family life.

My story...

Graduated in Environment Design from IADE, Joana worked for more than 10 years in renowned national ateliers - such as SA&V, Rita Glória and Oficina166 - and internationally in Ireland and Angola, until the desire to create her own atelier arose.

During her life, she moved house more than 10 times, became a believer in less is more and, combining this philosophy with motherhood, she quickly realized that having a method and organization are fundamental for a balanced family life.

Recently, during the quarantine, Joana found herself with her two daughters and her husband telecommuting in an apartment that was not designed to fit her family. It was in this context, and in his house, that he began to combine interior design with the necessary practicality, combining comfort and aesthetics with the functionality, organization and usability of the house.

At the same time, he embraced the most important project of his life - he bought an old house and had the opportunity to renovate it, thinking in detail how he could adapt each room to his family's needs. That's how “locked up” in an apartment began to realize the friction that existed around her and how she could minimize them in the new house to facilitate family dynamics and encourage the children's independence.

The Casa Mãe project was born here - a workshop that adapts the house to the dynamics of each family, including the youngest elements, taking into account the different ages and respective needs of each child. We want to improve your family's life starting with your home and adjust it to your routines, thus creating a more peaceful and functional family dynamic.

Children like to feel an integral part of the house, to feel that they can help their parents with tasks and do their own without having to ask for help at every step. For these little things to be possible, the environment needs to be prepared and thought in that sense. It is important for the development of children to grow up in a space adapted to them; a space that, in addition to a feeling of belonging, stimulates independence, creates responsibility, care for your belongings, fun, taste for harmony and much more.
